Do you think we have the right to know what is in our food?

Posted in Environmental, GMOs, Health, Knowledge is Power Series on 29.06.16

GMO FoodDo you think we have the right to know what is in our food?  The U.S. Senate doesn’t seem to think so.

Here is the latest headline Senate Agriculture Committee Leaders Strike Deal on Agriculture Biotechnology Compromise.  It describes how U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan) along with Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich) released a bipartisan agreement establishing a national disclosure standard for GMO food. Genetically modified organisms are found in many commercial food products. Here is the link to the actual bill http://www.agriculture.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Ag%20biotech%20compromise%20proposal.pdf

Don’t know about you but I want to know what is in the product I am purchasing. In fact, we all need to know. More than 60 other countries have banned GMO food and here we are allowing big profit-driven manufacturing companies to dictate what we should and should not know!  You need to know that if this bill passes, it would result in the complete banning of GMO labelling.

Currently this bill is being rushed through Congress.  Why is that?  Well, a handful of states hGMO Food Labelave voted to make mandatory labeling of GMO’s in food and this bill would over-rule that. The bill also states that no foods need to be labeled for two years. Plus, any food product that is less than 50% GMO’d could be considered non-GMO. After two years, the USDA would require a company to place a scan label on their goods. It would probably look something like this one….

And food derived from GMO-fed animals would be considered non-GMO. That’s right, no labeling required.

Do you think our elected leaders should fight for our right to know what is in the food that we ingest? I think they should but apparently they don’t. Did you know that Senators Stabinow (MY Senator!) and Roberts crafted a bill that would keep us in the dark?  The Senators jointly said, “This bipartisan agreement is an important path forward that represents a true compromise. Since time is of the essence, we urge our colleagues to move swiftly to support this bill.”

Yes, we need to move swiftly if we want to protect our right to know.  If this stuff is so safe, why all the hoopla to keep us from knowing? I smell a rat. We must work together and tell our Senators and Representatives to vote no on this ludicrous bill. Call your Senators now. Tell them we demand to know what is in our food supply. Here is the main U.S. Capitol number  (202) 224-3121. Don’t delay a minute. Call and ask to speak to your Senators. If you get a recording, leave a message.

Our political system is clearly broken.  This bipartisan agreement is a disaster. We need to protect our families from these mega profit driven giants.  Our politicians need to understand who they work for and they need to start working for us.  It is time to make your voice heard.  Help me be A Voice for Change and protect our freedom and the very foundation that this great country was built on!

Urgent National Action Alert!!

Posted in Political America on 12.04.12

Stand up for your right to know what is in our food!

From Organic Consumers Association website …

“OCA has learned, as we reported last week, that Vermont may not pass the GMO Labeling law now languishing in the state legislature, because Monsanto has threatened to sue the state if they pass the bill. According to informed sources, Vermont Governor Peter Schumlin is probably the only one who can save the bill from dying in this legislature session, which ends May 1.

Please get on the phone right now to Governor Schumlin and tell him not to buckle under Monsanto’s biotech bullying. We need a GMO labeling bill and we need one right now. Vermont can and should lead the way! Other states will follow.

Please pick up the phone now and call Governor Schumlin’s office:

Phone: 802 828-3333
TTY:800 649-6825
Fax: 802 828-3339
Email: GovernorVT@state.vt.us”

I just called the governors office and left word that I’m pro GMO labeling – asking for his support – they took the info and said they are keeping track of the incoming calls and are very aware of the issue.

SO CALL – NOW – this is big guys – WE CAN’T LET CORPORATE AMERICA DICTATE WHAT THEY WILL AND WILL NOT DO. This is criminal strong arming at its best. Mafia control might be a better description. IT MUST STOP NOW.  WE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT WE ARE PUTTING INTO OUR BODIES!

Please help me, help you, help us – all of us.

Thanks, Coach “D”
