Practice Doesn’t Always Make Perfect Especially in Medicine

It is not a joke – doctors “practice” medicine. That is exactly what they do when they order several tests and poke and prod your body. They are “practicing” blankchalkboardpracticemedicine trying to make a diagnosis as to what is wrong with you. It is the ultimate guessing game. Through testing, they “rule out” possible diagnoses and treat the patient for what appears to be a specific problem. The “practicing” of medicine is then compounded by the drugs that

LH and FSH, The Hormones

Posted in Hormones on 18.10.14

I Didn’t Know That (IDKT) …

LH-FSH

LH is a leutenizing hormone which means it is a pituitary hormone. LH instructs the ovaries and testes to produce more androgen (steroid type) hormones (aka – testosterone/ progesterone). This is often times seen elevated in states of androgen deficiency (low testosterone/progesterone).

FSH is a follicular stimulating hormone which means it is a pituitary hormone. FSH instructs the ovaries and testes to produce more fertility hormones (estrogens and dihydrotestosterone), as well as helping mature ovarian follicles and testicular spermatogenesis. This is often times seen elevated after menopause and with severe andropause (male menopause).

syntheticQ. Hello Doc, I am supposed to begin taking hormones as a result of a recent visit to my doctor. I’m having second thoughts on using a synthetic hormone. Can you shed some more insight about taking hormone replacements that might ease my fears? There is so much conflicting information out there that I just don’t know what to think. Thank you. Let The Sunshine In But Take Your D3

Posted in Vitamin A, C, D, E, Vitamins on 28.08.13

d3Summer is well under way and you probably think you are getting enough sunshine and as a result, are producing enough D3 right? Think again as you may be wrong especially if you are using sunscreen. You might be surprised to know that D3 is not a vitamin as many call it. D3 is actually a hormone that is produced when the sun comes in contact with the skin. The skin is the biggest organ the human body has. As we age, we have less ability to convert UV rays into D3.

Most everyone should be taking 5,000iu’s of D3 a day. Many should even take more until they get their reserves up to par. Get out in the sun and skip the sun screen. The sun doesn’t cause cancer. Toxic sunscreens, poor diet and poor health does.

Testosterone… testosterone is a major male foundational hormone. It is an androgen and very calming. It is important for healthy HDL levels and all organ system function including cardiovascular, brain, skin, immunity, fertility and libido. Most men today are testosterone deficient. Women can have too much too as they only need a little.

Testosterone is one of 8 hormones that are tested through saliva testing at the New Medicine Foundation. Blood testing just doesn’t cut it as it can vary considerably throughout the course of the day. New Medicine Foundation is about

Hormone Testing is Crucial for All

I didn’t know that …estrogen actually breaks down bone and that progesterone builds bone. Do you know what your hormone levels are? Do you know that testing hormones through the blood only gives you the information of what your hormone levels are currently “circulating” through your body via your blood at the given moment when the blood is drawn? These levels vary greatly depending on the time of day, time of month, amount of stress and other factors that may be affecting you at any given moment. Wouldn’t you like to know what your hormone reserve levels are instead? Testing your saliva will give you the numbers that show your reserve levels that are found in your saliva cells. This is what you have on hand, ready for use when the need arises. That makes so much more sense to me. How about you? Want to know more, connect with Coach D at A Voice For Change. She is also the lead Life Style Counselor at the New Medicine Foundation working directly with Dr. Edward W. Pearson. Visit www.avoiceforchange.com or www.newmedicinefoundation.com

If you would like to hear Doc speak about hormones, go to the New Medicine Foundation website, scroll to the middle of the home page until you come to Recent Video. Click on Page 5 below the three video frames and click on Webinar Series Part 1 Hormones. The key to wellness is through education. Knowledge truly is power. Stay tuned for more in the upcoming weeks as I turn up the heat through the summer and give you lots to learn, digest and ponder.

Coach D signing off for now. Enjoy your day living in great health and wellness.

DHEA, The Hormone

IDKT (I Didn’t Know That) …

DHEA

…DHEA is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that your body uses for the production of testosterone and estrogen (and other hormones). DHEA can help prevent osteoporosis, improve adrenal failure issues, improve sexual function in men and women, and can alleviate depression. Although it is sold over the counter as a vitamin or nutritional supplement, it is not a nutrient and is usually manufactured through a synthetic chemical process. DHEA should only be administered by a doctor that understands hormones and hormone balancing.

Progesterone, The Hormone

natural-progesterone

progesterone is the major female hormone and that it is known as an androgen (steroid type) hormone. Progesterone has a calming effect on the body. It is important for healthy HDL levels (healthy cholesterol) and all organ system function including cardio vascular and brain, skin, immunity, fertility, and libido. Most women today are deficient. Men only need a tiny bit, similar to what a woman would need of testosterone. I also didn’t know that most women today are deficient in progesterone and could improve over-all health by knowing their progesterone levels and making sure there is an adequate amount in their bodies at all times.
