Following is my diary for the week documenting my routine and the results:

03/23/16 – I am still traveling and am now staying with my dad in New Jersey.  Trying to do the cold baths requires that I do a little shopping to equip the bathroom.  That won’t happen until the weekend.  I have done some shopping and continue to eat Paleo per the Epi-Paleo Rx book I mentioned last week. All is going fine. Need to shop and start to prepare foods again. Will be getting my father into the program as best I can.  84 is not a good time to start teaching an old dog new tricks.

03/24/16 – I am itching to do some more cold thermo baths.  Believe it or not, I am missing them.  I shopped today and will be preparing healthier meals tomorrow.  I need to get a new crock pot.  They seem to be an essential tool for ease in preparing healthy paleo meals.

03/25/16 – I am up by 7:30 to 8am now. Eating within a half hour of rising and not eating again until dinner.  Feeling very good although not getting any exercise to speak of.

03/26/16 – I was able to get to Bed, Bath and Beyond to pick up the over-flow restricter for the bath tub.  I was able to do the cold therm bath after dinner.  The faucet bath water was around 48 degrees. The tub was around 50 and I was able to get my skin temp to 56.  All was fine but when I got out and dried off, put on my PJ’s and socks and slippers, I found that I was unusually cold.  I believe it was due to the fact that I was not moving around.  It was bedtime.  I did go to bed a bit early but found that I was unable to get warm.  I had a restless sleep and won’t be doing that again. I think in the future I will do these cold thermo baths in the morning after breakfast.

03/27/16 – It is Easter – prepared a paleo dinner but also be prepared mashed potatoes for my dad (his favorite with gravy) so I will be indulging in that carb dish and will also be having strawberry short cake for dessert.  It is a holiday so I tend to forget strict adherence to diet, opting to remember the holiday and enjoy it without guilt.  Mission accomplished although I did have my usual high protein breakfast in the morning and we ate a bit later in the day so I only consumed 2 meals as I usually do. No negative side affects that night.  All is well.

03/28/16 –  All is still going well.  I had a breakfast engagement at 9:00am so I was unable to do a cold thermo bath. I will postpone that til tomorrow morning.  Back to normal eating paying attention to eating good quality protein and fat and a few veggies at dinner.  I tend to eat high protein at breakfast, especially with the cold thermo baths in the plan.

03/29/16 –  I had eggs and sausage for breakfast although I did not eat to capacity. I was not in the mood.  BUT I did do a morning cold thermo bath after breakfast.  This approach is much more tolerable for me.  I spent 40 minutes in the tub which was filled to capacity. I got my body temp to 56 degrees.  I was not cold in the water at all. It is actually amazing to me. I did wash my hair first in tepid water in the show and then started to fill the tub with cold water. Once I get 3 or 4 inches of water filling it, I switch to just cold water.  When I start out it is cold but not pure cold – I’d guess the water is approx 65 degrees for the first few inches.  My body tends to acclimate better doing that.  I am not a fill up the tub with cold water and get in kind of person. You can but I like the slower approach letting my body adjust a little at a time.  Once done, I dressed for the day and then went to work at my computer.  I was up and down though and active. It was much better this time around. I will continue with morning cold thermo baths after breakfast.

Following is my diary for the week documenting my routine and the results:

03/16/16 – I was at a charity event last night so I didn’t get a chance to eat dinner other than to have 2 small appetizers that were being passed around.  Once contained cheese with a bread crumb topping – deep fried and the other was also deep fried and contained a wheat coating.  I had two of each and called it a night for eating. I also had 2 white wine spritzers containing about one ounce of wine each and topped off with club soda.  I wasn’t really hungry, came home and went to bed. I was exhausted from never going to bed the night before and was in bed by 10pm.  I also didn’t want to eat so close to bed time.  Since I wasn’t that hungry, I just drank a glass of water and went to bed.  I felt fine this morning but was a bit on the hungry side.  I had an omelet for breakfast (no potatoes, toast or cheese).  That was at 9:00am.  It is now 6:00pm and I am going to dinner with friends at 7:00pm.  Unlike my past, I will be fine until I am able to eat dinner that will consist of seafood and salad.  My breakfast was all protein (required for reversing leptin resistance) so my dinner will contain some veggies. Since I’m traveling, I won’t be able to do a cold thermo bath until Saturday evening.

03/17/16 – I’ve been vacationing and enjoying my friends and not paying much attention to food.  I am not able to eat as promptly as if I were home as there are others that are joining me so I have to wait.  I am still maintaining my 2 meal a day schedule.  I am still eating a high protein breakfast and find that I am not hungry until 7 or 8pm so all is good.  No sugar/starch cravings either.  All is good.

03/18/16 – Again, enjoying my time off but not paying much attention to food intake.  Same as above with regard to eating, etc.  I can tell I have not gained any weight and I’m easily maintaining what I have loss thus far.

03/19/16 – Ditto on the above.

03/20/16 – Ditto on the above.

03/21/16 –  All is still going well.  Because of the traveling I am doing, I haven’t been able to get the food I need as easily.  I’m not eating the wrong foods as I have no desire.  But I am also not eating as I would like to be.  As a result, my energy levels are off a bit and I’m just not feeling 100%.  I know this will change by Wednesday though.  Remember life is a journey.  Don’t fret over the small stuff and what I am experiencing in the big scheme of things, really is small stuff.

03/22/16 –  Well it is happy birthday to my dad.  I arrived today and he was very surprised.  But like I said above, due to traveling I haven’t been eating as well as I would like.  I did stop at Wendy’s while driving and ordered a double burger.  I removed the bread and just at the meat.  That was satisfying to my hunger and lasted me til dinner.  We had a birthday dinner for my father and I ate 2 small bites of his cheesecake.  No other desserts.  I don’t miss dessert, don’t crave it – absolutely no sugar or carb cravings.  What a great feeling.  Tomorrow I will get back to cold thero baths I hope.  If I am unable to do one of Wednesday then I will do one on Thursday and get back into the swing of it all.

As a coach working with a board certified medical doctor in the alternative care field, I have come to realize that people are walking around the world lost in a sea of misinformation about food intake and health. Tune in to this series as Coach Donna Appel, Coach D for short, goes through a process of transformation.  She has been in the health and wellness and weight loss field for nearly ten years and has made some life changing discoveries that she wants to share with the world.  Everything she stands behind is virtual and can be done from the comfort of your home.  That is everything from testing kits to get your hormones tested to adrenal and complete blood lab evaluations.

3/2/2016 – Get Ready – Let’s Get The Weight Off Forever – Understanding how and why it works


Tonight we went into more detail talking about the origin and why Dr. Jack Kruse dove into this protocol. We talked about the three things you need to do to address chronic weight issues and rid yourself of fat and toxins and weight resistance once and for all.  They include healing leaky gut syndrome, turning off the leptin resistence to regain leptin sensitivity, eating a paleo diet (slightly altered in the beginning according to Dr. Kruse AND adding cold thermogenesis to the overall plan.  Here are the books suggested if you decide you want to dive into this: Epi-Paleo Rx by Dr. Jack Kruse, Mastering Leptin by Byron J and Mary Guignon Richards, The Paleo Solution The Original Human Diet by Robb Wolf.  Let me know if you have any questions after listening to the recording.

3/9/2016 – Get Go – Let’s Get The Weight Off Forever Part 2 – The Fat is Melting Off – Learn Why/How


Following is my diary for the week documenting my routine and the results:

03/09/2016 – I ended up NOT doing the cold bath last night as it was too far between when I had dinner and when I was able to crawl into the tub.  I will save it for Thursday night (tomorrow).

03/10/2016 –  I took a cold thermogenic bath at about 7:30pm. Before the bath, I drank 32oz of ice cold water. I was in the tub for 35 minutes. It is getting easier to take these baths and I am amazed at how quickly I am able to adapt without feeling cold.  I start out sitting in the tub of cool water.  I fill it about an inch and then I turn up the cold.  I have my temperature gun and found the water to come out of the tap at 55 degrees.  I ended up with a body temp of 62 degrees and called it quits after 35 minutes.

03/11/2016 – I have a busy birthday weekend planned for Don so I’m not sure what I will be able to maintain food wise but I did start the weekend with another cold bath around 4:00pm.  This time I added a gallon sized bag of ice and got my body temp to 60 degrees.  The ice melted within about 10 minutes and I was amazed that having the ice touch my already cold skin was not a bother.  I stayed in the cold bath for 40 minutes, got out, got dressed and took a walk.  I am noticing that my muffin top is fading although my weight is not shifting much.  Definitely change taking place.  No body pains to complain about either.  Had a nice Tuscany Italian dinner consisting of a few veggies and fish.  One bite of birthday cake.  All in all I was not hungry or craving anything and was easily able to push food away.  I just didn’t want it.

03/12/16 – Up early and had a breakfast of eggs and steak. We were on the road by 9am for Don’s birthday surprise – 1 hour of small plane flying. He was the pilot after a brief ground instruction from our “real” pilot.  Don really did fly though – took off as well – did it all except land.  I maintained my feeling of being full with no craving other than for water.  I had a cup of tea while on the road and other than that didn’t eat anything until mid afternoon after we got to the winery.  Later that day I ate some cheese (a no-no but all they had), some sliced salami and grapes (typical wine tasting fare). Yes I drank wine, then at a little BBQ around 7pm – no bread or crackers – just BBQ, potato salad and baked beans – and it was just a bite of each.  Again, no hunger or cravings.  Had a bite of birthday cake that was sickening sweet.

03/13/16 – Today I am focusing on work and on cooking better paleo dishes that focus on fish.  I’ll make a fish stew in the crock pot and make sure I have plenty left over for tomorrow.  I’ll be traveling next week but will do my best to stay paleo and maintain what I am currently doing.

03/14/16 – Fish stew was awesome and so simple to make with a crock pot.  I just dumped a bunch of different fishes in the pot from shrimp to oysters, clams, mussels, a slab of fish, and some scallops. Then I added tomatoes, clam juice with red and green peppers and a little onion pureed in a blender, spices to taste, and I topped it off with water – a cup or two to fill the crock.   About 3 hours later dinner was ready.  I had plenty left over to have for today and tomorrow.  Tonight I will do another cold therogenesis bath.  BTW, this morning I was feeling thinner even though I partied for Don’s birthday Friday and Saturday.  The scale didn’t budge BUT I was able to get into my size 6 pants this morning.  I’m thrilled as the muffin top is disappearing.

03/15/16 – Never went to bed last night.  This is a no no and I know better but I had a flight out of DC at 6:20am and had lots to get done in order to leave and be able to enjoy myself for a couple of days.  I’m on a quest to see my daughter who just turned 25 so this is an important trip for me.  BUT I still have a job as a coach and responsibilities with patients getting healthy, going through detoxes, etc so I need to prepare to be ready.  Sleep deprivation should not be something that any of us ever strive for.  Sometimes it is a requirement of life but we always need to be mindful of the fact that we need our rest.  Our body rebuilds and repairs during the sleep cycle. We need to be aware, appreciative of the body we have been given and give it a rest.  I will be sure to make up for it tonight by eating a healthy dinner earlier than usual so I can get a good night’s sleep earlier than usual.  I also didn’t get a chance to do another cold thermo bath.  I’ve done three though and will be talking about this in the coming weeks.  This is it for this blog and this week.  Look for the new blog that begins on March 16th and run through the 22nd with my check in notes/diary.

What is your why?  My why centers around health because I want to help people and share information that could very well save their life.

Make freshly brewed leafy green tea a part of your daily health regimen. Did you know it can help fight cancer? Did you know that green tea supports natural detoxifying enzymes, normal gene signaling as well as the health and function of intestinal flora? Did you know that the antioxidants present in green tea have been found to prevent the growth and formation of new blood vessels in tumors?
