Fasting Blood Sugar Numbers – Did You Know?

I Didn’t Know That …

A fasting blood sugar level over 100mg/dl is considered a pre-diabetic condition.a fasting blood sugar level over 100mg/dl is considered a pre-diabetic condition. I didn’t realize how devastatingly close that is to 126mg/dl which is the diagnosis number for diabetes. I also didn’t know that numbers much lower than these are what start the process of illness in the body. That’s right, blood sugar levels determine what your risk is for heart disease, cancer, kidney and nerve damage as well as dementia and stroke.

Having a hard time losing weight? Do you feel like you are aging faster than you should be? The process of getting diabetes begins with insulin resistance. It has been said by many doctors that understand the process of blood sugar malfunctions in the body that it is the major cause of aging and death in the developed world.

Diabetes has to be one of the, if not THE, most preventable disease that is being talked about and managed today. Obesity and diabetes go hand in hand. Did you know that gaining just 11 to 16 pounds doubles your risk for getting type 2 diabetes? Gaining 17 to 24 pounds triples that risk! Now I ask you, if that is the case, why do we have soda machines in offices and schools throughout our country? Why do we promote liquid sugar drinks, liquid calories, that are instantly absorbed into the blood stream? Products such as soda, most juices, sports drinks, and the like along with refined carbohydrates like bread, rice, potatoes, pasta are the most consumed foods and beverages in this country.

We need to wake up and start making major changes in this country if we are going to live long and prosper. Otherwise, who will be caring for us as the year’s progress and we get sicker and sicker and sicker and sicker. And I have to ask myself what our quality of life will be like then? Do you really want to live in a body that is in constant pain and rotting from the inside out? Well, I guess in the big scheme of things, you won’t even know it because dementia will set in and you’ll be clueless? Right? Hummmm now that is something to ponder and something we won’t know until we get there.

Just Because It Is Organic Doesn’t Mean It Is Safe … Organic Carrageenan

Posted in Cancer, Cardio - Heart Health, Diabetes, Disease, Health, Inflamation, Knowledge is Power Series, Nutrition on 26.10.14

Share

Here is another plug for eating un-processed foods free of additives like the one I am about to talk about called carrageenan. Eating foods in their whole organic form instead of buying them packaged like the ready to eat meals and dishes so prevalent today, will always be what I advise. Want to eat some soup now that the colder months are heading our way? Make your own. Here is how easy it is …. buy some chicken, put it in a pot of boiling water and let it cook til it drops off the bone. Let it cool, remove the bones, add your favorite veggies and some organic sea salt and wa la – soup’s on. It really is that easy. You don’t need a ton of spices for fancy ingredients to make a pot of soup. I make a big pot and then put it into quart canning jars. I place the jars in the freezer with the lids on loosely. Once the soup is frozen, I secure the lids and call it a day. Now I have plenty of fresh organic soup ready to go.

You can do the same with beef or with most any meat for that matter. Feeling overwhelmed with little time to fuss? Get a crock pot. Toss in a chick and some veggies and some water, salt and pepper and in a few hours; you’ll have a meal in a pot, free of additives and other harmful ingredients.

Want some ice cream, go get an ice cream maker and make it yourself. Turn it into a family affair or a party. Enjoy the process of preparing foods that will not harm you. Want to know why I am talking about this now?

I’m now reading about another food additive called carrageenan AKA Chondrus Crispus AKA Irish moss, which is extracted from red seaweed. It has no nutritional value. It is being used as a thickener in cottage cheese, soy milk, ice cream, yogurt as well as other processed foods. What could be bad you ask? After all it is natural; it comes from a natural source, red seaweed. Well according to what I am reading, research has been done numerous times and the findings were not good. In fact, studies found that undegraded carrageenan, which is the type that is widely used in prepared foods, was associated with malignancies and other stomach issues. I’d like to mention that the difference between degraded and undegraded carrageenan is found in the molecular weight. Undegraded carrageenan has the higher weight.

A prominent researcher, Joanne K. Tobacman, M.D., has published 18 peer-reviewed studies over the years that specifically addressed the effects of carrageenan. She is convinced that it is harmful to humans. Her research shows that exposure to carrageenan causes inflammation and it didn’t matter if it was degraded or undegraded. Dr. Tobacman also noted that carrageenan was also used by drug investigators in the past. They knowingly used it to cause inflammation when they were doing testing on the anti-inflammatory properties of new drugs that they were trying to bring to market. It was actually proven in testing on lab mice. They found that when mice were exposed to low doses of carrageenan for 18 days, the mice developed a profound intolerance to glucose along with impaired insulin action which eventually leads to diabetes. Remember this was after 18 days of low dose exposure. Now that is scary especially when the incidents of diabetes is climbing astronomically especially among our children.

I have been reading more and more about inflammation these days. Could this be another additive substance that we need to be on the look out for? It is well known that chronic inflammation is a root cause for many illnesses including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cancer and heart disease. I can tell you this, if anyone is experiencing stomach and/or digestive issues like inflammatory bowel disease, I would seriously start looking at your labels and if this substance is in it, stop eating it immediately. In my book, we have enough digestive issues to worry about with the consumption of genetically modified food. Now it seems that there is yet another that will be causing major havoc on our internal body functions.

Look, we already have enough substances that are added to our food supply that we need to be weary of. Do we need to have another one? Really? It is exhausting to try to keep up. Now you know why I don’t consume processed foods. Every time you turn around there is something else that we have to be on the lookout for. What people may not realize is just because it is a “natural” and even an “organic” substance, doesn’t mean it is good for us. Lead is a natural substance found in mineral deposits in the earth. So is arsenic. Need I say more?

You can connect with Coach D, Donna Appel at A Voice For Change at www.avoiceforchange.com or send an email to her at donna.appel@newmedicinefoundation.com or donna@avoiceforchange.com. She is the lead Health Style Counselor for the New Medicine Foundation and the CEO of A Voice For Change. She can explain exactly what it is that NMF does virtually, all over the world. Lose weight, get your hormones, thyroid and adrenals balanced, along with getting your blood checked all from the privacy of your home and under the care of a board certified doctor. It won’t cost you thousands and thousands of dollars either and you won’t be spending half of your paycheck on synthetic medications trying to mask the issues at hand. There are various easy to follow programs available and payment plans that make it all accessible for everyone. Sickness and disease is not normal. Health and wellness is and it’s easy to obtain.

Sick, Depressed and Fat ~ Part 2 ~

Posted in Diabetes, Disease on 05.05.12

Share

I Didn’t Know That (IDKT) …

Sick, Depressed and Fat - find out why - visit www.avoiceforchange.comIf you are working on getting healthy, sugar is one of the first things you should dump from your shopping list.  Well that isn’t exactly true, I knew it should be but I really didn’t know why.  That’s not true either.  I knew it caused problems but I didn’t know how bad those problems could be.  And that is the truth.  Here are some more facts I haven’t revealed yet

Life expectancy is declining for the first time in human history.

It has been said by many health practitioners that we are raising the first generation of Americans to live sicker and die younger than their parents.

Almost 30 percent of diabetics over the age of 40 have impaired sensation in their feet.  This often leads to amputations.

It is estimated that diabetics die an average of six years earlier than non-diabetics.  The pain leading up to their death for many, is excruciating.  They can suffer for years so one really has to consider the quality of life and not just life expectancy.

Over the next decade it is estimated that direct health care costs will be over $3.4 trillion dollars for issues that are related to diabetic and pre-diabetic conditions.

Type 2 diabetes is the result of too much insulin, not too little.

Insulin resistance happens when one consumes too many empty calories from soda and sugary drinks along with eating too many refined carbohydrates like pasta, potatoes, bread, and the like.  The result is that your cells become resistant or another way of putting it, your cells become numb to the effects of insulin.

Worsening insulin resistance symptoms include the loss of muscle, the increase of fat storage, inflammation, rapid aging and overall bodily deterioration.

Now You Know (NYK) …

Turn over a new leaf; Transform a new life
